Maintaining hearing aids in the winter
It’s important to take care of your hearing health, particularly in winter. Our ears are very sensitive to the cold—they’re one of the first body parts to be affected.
Low temperatures can also pose challenges to hearing aid users.
Winter sports and hearing aids
Hearing aids shouldn’t affect your enjoyment of winter sports, but here are a few things to keep in mind.
Wearing a thin headband or cap under your helmet is a good idea, as it will help keep your hearing aids in place and prevent them from falling out. The helmet and cap will also work together to reduce the sound of wind in your hearing aids’ microphones.
That said, don’t change the helmet padding around your ears in any way. Doing so reduces the helmet’s ability to absorb energy and protect against injury.
Keep your devices dry!
Hearing aids need to stay dry during winter sports. While snow and sweat can make this difficult, it is important.
That’s why we recommend placing your hearing aids in a ProtecLobe or an electric dehumidifier if possible. These tools remove excess humidity from the devices, reducing the risk of breakage. To find the nearest Lobe clinic, click here.

Don't forget!
An assessment by an audioprosthetist is required to determine which hearing aid suits the patient's needs.
